Case Study: Why I Signed Up With William Hill By Steve Bamford
I signed up with William Hill a number of years ago. I already had experience of other online bookmakers and had regularly placed bets both via sites and mobile apps with the likes of bet365 amongst others.
As with most new customers, I was attracted by William Hill’s new customer offer at the time, which involved free bets after a qualifying bet had been placed. Once registered, the process was really easy and the free bet tokens arrived in my wallet, straight after I had placed the qualifying bet. That’s brilliant as many bookmaker new customer promotions make you wait until your qualifying bet has been settled before you receive the free bets. They came in £10 denominations and I really liked the fact that you had up to 30 days to actually use them.
Since becoming a William Hill customer I have been impressed. As a regular football punter the breadth and depth of markets is staggering at all levels. They have odds boosts for accumulators and their in-play betting is easy to navigate and fast enough to get bets placed, while the action is end-to-end.

William Hill Maximum Payout
Maximum payout ceilings are critical when selecting an online bookmaker to place bets with. Each and every bookmaker has daily payout limits within their terms of business. Some are extremely generous, with others significantly lower – and be in no doubt, a bookmaker will not pay any winnings higher than their daily maximum payout ceiling. To add a level of complexity, those levels vary by sport and naturally can impact on large payouts, especially via accumulator bets.
Here’s a summary of some key sports and William Hill’s maximum payouts compared with some others in the market:
| Sport | William Hill Max Payout | Worst Max Payout |
|---|---|---|
| UEFA Champions League | £1,000,000 | £250,000, 888 Sport |
| English Premier League | £1,000,000 | £250,000, 888 Sport |
| Top Level UK Horse Racing | £1,000,000 | £100,000, Unibet |
| PGA Tour Golf | £250,000 | £100,000, BetVictor |
| ATP Tennis | £100,000 | £75,000, Unibet |
| PDC Darts | £250,000 | £25,000, Betfair Sportsbook |

William Hill History
William Hill were the largest bookmaker organisation in the United Kingdom before the merger of Ladbrokes and Coral in November 2016. However with 2,400 William Hill licensed betting shops in the UK alone, William Hill has a huge footprin with regular customer numbers in the millions each and every week. From humble beginnings in 1934 when William Hill himself started taking bets over the phone and via the post, by 1966 William Hill opened its first shop and in 1998 William Hill opened its first online website focussing naturally on Sportsbook. William Hill were very early movers in the online revolution and even today their website ranks as the second busiest online gambling platform globally. Indeed William Hill is now a truly global player with Nevada-based casino websites in the United States, a growing Australian footprint driven by acquisitions of Sportingbet and Centrebet, plus established online presence in Italy/Spain.
In today’s modern online gambling environment of bookmaker mergers and a UK market that is reportedly worth £4 billion, William Hill since 2013 has been the topic of much speculation. With the third biggest market share of the UK online market and with 23% of the UK’s licensed betting shops in its control, William Hill is undoubtedly a huge player. But where in 2015 it was Number 1, it has been surpassed by mergers forming Paddy Power Betfair plc and Ladbrokes Coral plc. So where does William Hill now go strategically in an online gambling market where critical mass is everything? Well internally William Hill is focussing on online customer journey and tailoring experience for its active users. A new technology hub was launched in Shoreditch, London in 2015 so expect ever better laptop and mobile offerings in the very near future.
However it’s well known that William Hill’s goal is to yet again become the UK’s biggest bookmaker. Their online offering is much stronger than Ladbrokes or Coral but now the combined mass of Ladbrokes Coral plc makes them the market leader. Since 2013 William Hill has been courting casino player-facing 888 Group with a view to buying them and creating a super bookmaker/gaming operator. A couple of offers have been made for 888 whose 888Casino brand is one of the biggest online casinos globally. However the tables were turned in late summer 2016 when there was a takeover approach from 888 and Rank Group for William Hill. What’s for sure is that William Hill online will continue to grow and challenge the likes of bet365 and Betfair with strong promotions and a tailor-made customer experience.
William Hill New Customer Offer Football 2026/2027 Season
With the extended International Break finally in the rear-view mirror, the next phase of Premier League matches continues before we break again in November for thankfully just a week this time.
Manchester City topped the league heading into the first break with five wins from five, however with all the turmoil surrounding the club at present whether they can maintain that position remains to be seen. Arsenal sit in second place at the time of writing with four wins from five; however a damaging 3-0 defeat at Brighton on their last fixture took the shine off their otherwise strong start to the campaign.
Talking of Brighton, they’re off to a flyer this season with Fabian Hurzeler’s side winning three of their five games and sitting third place in the table after the first International Break. With Pascal Gross pulling the strings in midfield and Brian Brobbey already with a hat-trick to his name this term, perhaps they can push on and seriously contend for a European spot this season.
In the slipstream both Liverpool and Everton were unbeaten through their first five matches with identical 2-3-0 records, but both Merseyside clubs will need to convert draws into wins if they’re going to challenge at the top end of the table this term.
Promoted teams Hull and Ipswich have both picked up two valuable wins each to put them comfortably in mid-table, with only Coventry struggling despite picking up a win over Nottingham Forest before the break. It’s Spurs and Fulham though who occupy the other relegation places alongside the Sky Blues, with both London clubs winless from their opening five matches.
William Hill will, as ever, have a multitude of outright and individual match markets available for betting upon as the action continues in the early autumn here in England.
Gameweek 6 fixtures are as follows:
Saturday 10th October:
- Arsenal vs Leeds
- Aston Villa vs Brentford
- Chelsea vs Bournemouth
- Ipswich vs Fulham
- Sunderland vs Brighton
- Manchester United vs Tottenham
Sunday 11th October:
- Crystal Palace vs Nottingham Forest
- Hull vs Everton
- Liverpool vs Manchester City
Monday 12th October:
- Coventry vs Newcastle
